Planning...

Yes, I've been away for quite a while... It has happened before, and it may happen again, I can't avoid that. Anyway, I'm back for now and I want to take AiDaNews to a new level - v 2.0. I still need to start working on it, but things like these need a bit of planning so I need your help!

In this article I'll write a list of things that will be refined and/or corrected, both taken from comments/forums and found out on my own. You can help by telling me what works and what doesn't, telling me what should be refined and so on. Please do NOT ask for new features (if they're not in the following list) - getting the module to a stable level is my main target right now. You can still ask for new features in the forums though - if it's something easy, I may code it anyway Occhiolino Just avoid stressing me too much Linguaccia

I'll try releasing the com_content / FLEXIcontent version and the K2 version of the module at the same time, even if it means delaying both versions a bit - I don't want the K2 version to be left as is any more Sorridente

Plans for AiDaNews v 2.0 (both versions)

  • Completely rewrite the module's code to follow the MVC pattern
  • W3C code check and code compression before every release
  • Toggles to add h1, h2 or h3 tags to titles
  • Usage of classes and ids in every span and div to allow easier customization for expert developers
  • Unused positions won't be displayed (before empty divs were displayed for positions that had only an '[empty]' tag in them)
  • Different CSS classes for oddly numbered articles (to allow alternate background colors)
  • Limit articles to current category
  • Shorten Title by number of words
  • Fix: Links with itemid
  • Show introtext as link, or leave it untouched
  • Show rating as stars
  • Advanced Tooltips Settings
  • Tooltips on Titles
  • Youtube URLs for YT Thumbs
  • Metadescription instead of intro
  • More accurate function to retrieve images (improves compatibility) (works!)
  • Select articles by ID (Planned for beta3)
  • Fix: Function to shorten text no longer strips symbols and strange characters ($)
  • Advanced images folder management (Planned for beta3)

Plans for AiDaNews v 2.0 (FLEXIcontent / com_content version only)

  • Support for all core field types (Planned for beta3)
  • Fix: Show only frontpaged articles

Plans for AiDaNews v 2.0 (K2 version only)

  • Related Items by K2 TAGs (Planned for beta2)
  • Full K2 Fields support (Planned for beta2)

Last Modified: 2-1-11, 0:12

If a line is green, that feature has already been coded

If a line is blue, that's the next thing I will be working on

Please note: AiDaNews won't include things as Pagination, Image Previews, Scrolling or Slideshows. As soon as I manage to learn how to code such things, I'll create another module.

Hi,
I'd like to suggest a feature...
It should be really useful, in my opninion, to envelop each news in a div with a category class, suche as class="categoryID" where ID is the category ID.
This to give the possibility do have different layout for news from different categories...
Thanks a lot
Alessandro

Sounds cool, I'll add it right away

Hi,
I downloaded and installed 2.0 version, and I had some display problems... It was completely brakeing my template.
Checking the code, I found that adding a at the very end of default.php file solved the problem.
I didn't investigate much more, but maybe you can have a look ;-)
Bye and thanks for your module
Alessandro

mmm... comments system removed a part of the message. I mean "... adding a div close tag at the very end of..."

Hi, thanks for the great AidaNews module!
I'm using the 1.2.1 version on my website (http://wwww.boincitaly.org) and I want to highlignt two little issues that I've noted:
the first regards url when SEO is enabled, that works but the article alias is missing. If you click on the title you can see that urls ends with the article id.
The second is related to the autor name: if an alias is present, it's ignored and the module show the real author of the article. You can easly reproduce that problems, but you can see them also on my website.
Thanks for your works!
Bye,
Paolo

Both problems have been solved in the beta version you can download on googlecode (even though I thought the alias issue had been solved in 1.2.1 already :3

A packaged version of AiDaNews v 2.0 beta 1 (revision 3) has been uploaded on GoogleCode - you can find it here: http://code.google.com/p/aidanews/downloads/detail?name=mod_aidanews_2_0_beta_1.zip&can=2&q=#makechanges . Please test it throughly before using it on a live site (it should actually be more stable than v 1.2.1, but try before you buy use...)

Hi Dan, thanks for the answer.
Using option with metakeys, it is a good alternative for article IDs.
One more idea - how about an option to show metadescription in intro (alongside fulltext and introtext)?
Thanks again

The work-in-progress version of AiDaNews 2.0 is now available through SVN. Click on "Google Code" on the top-right corner, you can find it there. SVN revisions aren't to be considered stable, so please test them on test sites. Please let me know of any issue by posting a message on the forums or an issue on googlecode :)
